Composition Materials consulting services are available to customers regarding the use of walnut shells grit, Plasti-grit or other members of the soft abrasive family of products. Composition Materials pioneered walnut shells abrasive blasting with the US Navy in the 1950s, aircraft carriers and submarines were stripped of only their top coats leaving the expensive undercoats undisturbed. Prior to the introduction of walnut shells blasting coatings were removed down to the bare metal requiring the replacement of the undercoat, the vinyl coat and the top coat. The idea of selective coating removal with walnut shells originated here and saved the Navy a great deal of time and expense. Together with Composition Materials' partner, Shellpro's acquisition of Agrashell in 2002 it has become the largest supplier of walnut shells in the world.
Composition Materials started business with a line of fillers and extenders. walnut shells flour has many attributes which recommend it as the ideal filler for the Compounding of adhesives and plastics. Composition Materials is the premier manufacturer of the quality walnut shells products required for the demanding industry of cosmetics. The cosmetics industry has adopted the use of walnut shells, grits and flours in the manufacturer of high quality facial scrubs, soaps and creams. Products that require non-skid coatings, such as bathtubs, showers, surf boards and pool decks require clear or specific colors. Composition Materials additives have the same density as the coatings and remain in suspension after mixing, which means they can be surface painted which costs less. Composition Materials' additives include walnut shells, hard abrasives such as aluminum oxide, and clear and colored Thermoset plastics.
