Paint Stripping
You may be wondering what the best way is to achieve a professional paint stripping job without the use of harsh materials of toxic chemicals. Well, the answer to that is plastic media blasting. To break it down simply, plastic media blasting it is the use of reusable plastic particles that are propelled by compressed air at a relatively low pressure approximately 10-40 psi, for use in paint stripping to be able to remove paint and other various coatings from many different kinds of surfaces. Plastic media blasting can remove the coatings without etching, marring, pitting, warping or otherwise damaging the surface being blasted. The plastic media is available in different compounds to meet the requirements of the surface being prepped.
The granular plastic media that is used in the process is irregular in shape and the tiny, sharp edges, of the plastic media will cut through paint, coatings or even build up and lift them off of the surface, leaving it bare and ready for paint or powder coating The most practical means of paint stripping and original bare surface exposure is plastic media blasting also known as PMB. This process is rapid, economical, and environmentally safe for the removal of coatings and paint stripping from almost any surface without introducing toxic acid dipping, chemical strippers, sandblasting, or hand and mechanical abrasive methods.
Plastic media blasting is similar in nature to that of sandblasting, but instead of using hard, abrasive silica sand, a much softer reusable matter with plastic particles is used at a much lower pressure which is set somewhere between 14-40 psi compared to 60-100 psi for sand blasting. The more forceful pressure can cause material surface damage, heat warping, pitting, and stretching. At the lower air pressures of plastic media blasting, the plastic media is able to remove the coatings or paint stripping without causing damage to the underlying surface, even with materials such as aluminum, fiberglass, and other plastics. There are five major types of media used and they are polyester, urea, melamine, acrylic, and clear-cut.
